TimeBank Made Easier
A new initiative from the Nether-Swarthmore TimeBank aims to make it easier to connect neighbors so they can help each other, according to TimeBank committee member Kristy Boyer Chen.
The TimeBank works by having members “bank” time they earn by helping another member with a task — for example, giving computer help, or an art lesson, or picking up groceries. The helper can then use those banked hours to “purchase” help from someone else involved in the network.
Now, instead of navigating the TimeBank’s website, members can call coordinator Stephanie McDonough and let her know what they need, or what they have to offer.
“I’m pretty familiar with our membership,” McDonough says. “I can use the skills each person listed on their profile to reach out to the right helpers, to see if they’re willing to lend a hand.” That way, she says, the requester has a better chance of getting the help they need. TimeBank members can call or text McDonough at 484-437-8272.
“Of course, members who are computer savvy are still welcome to post their requests and offers on the website,” McDonough adds. Visit the website.
