Community Classes Go Online This Spring
After a hiatus last fall due to the pandemic, Wallingford-Swarthmore Community Classes will return this spring, with a roster of online adult education courses offered via Zoom.
There will be fewer offerings this year, but board president Peg Christensen says that enough classes will work online to make the program a success. “Instructors weighed in on both the suitability of their courses to online learning and their own comfort with remote teaching,” she reports. One class — birding — will be in-person outdoors.
The upside of online instruction, says Christensen, is “having the class come to you instead of you going to the class.” While old favorites like wine tasting won’t be offered, she says, “We hope our students will embrace the offerings at hand and join us for a fun and exciting — though different — series of classes.”
Of the 24 offerings, 10 are devoted to mind and body fitness, including yoga, Pilates, meditation, and tai chi. Other classes include Italian, photography, and the study of tea.
The semester begins March 1, and classes will run for up to eight weeks. Detailed course information and registration instructions are at wscclasses.org. Please note that you can access the website any time to look at policies or read about the courses, but registration will open on January 23, the same day that an informational brochure will be mailed to area households.
