Library Programs for the Pandemic
The Swarthmore Public Library and the Delaware County Library System are offering programs to help alleviate isolation while we commit to social distancing.
Paperless Pen Pals will match you with another library patron for email correspondence, based on a short survey of interests.
Neighborly Chat will pair you with a librarian or volunteer for weekly calls to check-in.
Video Lecture Series: “Experiencing Hubble: Exploring the Milky Way” is now online. Patrons can access three weekly lectures to watch at their own pace and time during the week. On Thursdays, they can join a Zoom discussion.
One Book, One Swarthmore (virtual edition) promotes literacy and community dialogue by encouraging Swarthmoreans to come together through reading and discussing a single book. The theme for this year is “Coming Together While We Are Apart.” Virtual events will be held between May 1 and May 15. Swarthmore community members are invited to submit their vote for the final selection in the virtual One Book, One Swarthmore community reading program.
Book It! 5K Run/Walk is now a virtual run or walk. Participants can register at swat.ink/book-it-2020 by midnight on April 24, then walk or run a 5k at any time between April 25 and May 2. The libraries have mapped out a few 5 kilometer route options at swat.ink/book-it-routes. Walkers and runners can, of course, create their own (or even use a treadmill). Participants are encouraged to wear silly hats and share their photos. Posting courses and times is optional. Email bookitrace5k@gmail.com or share to the Book It! Facebook page.
All proceeds directly benefit the programs and services of the Helen Kate Furness and Swarthmore Public Libraries.
