This is a difficult time. The social distancing measures that are underway to help slow the spread of COVID-19 are leaving many feeling isolated and on edge. Others may be worried about their neighbors but unsure how to assist them safely. The Nether-Swarthmore TimeBank is hoping to help.

For those unfamiliar with the organization, TimeBank uses a website to pair folks who need help with those who are willing to do some helping. Members can post an “Offer” if they have a particular skill they think could benefit another. People who need help with a task can post a “Request.” People respond according to their need, or their ability to help. The goal is to strengthen the fabric of the community through the exchange of skills and services.

The TimeBank is inviting community members to join today if they are willing to help, or if they need some support weathering the current challenges. There are no fees and no entry requirements.

Nether-Swarthmore TimeBank usually asks new members to attend in-person orientations, but for now that request is being waived. Instead, if they have questions, new members are encouraged to message the TimeBank through our website. One of the site administrators will be happy to help. You can also request — or become — a TimeBank “angel”: someone who helps make the online connection to TimeBank for a person who is not online, or is not comfortable navigating the process.

The TimeBank stands ready to help facilitate all kinds of tasks. Some examples include: delivery of groceries (or helping those who are less than tech-savvy place an online delivery order), pharmacy errands, social interaction in the form of phone calls or online games, help figuring out computer issues…. Of course, the organization is encouraging all of this help to be offered in the safest way possible. Deliveries will be left outside doors, surfaces will be wiped down, and assistance or companionship will be offered over the phone or online when possible.
