Spotlight Theatre has announced the details of its 2019-2020 season — the 79th for this community theatre. Spotlight’s season will feature a mix of beloved stories and fresh, lesser-known works, including comedy, drama, and musicals.
The Prisoner of Second Avenue kicks off the season, with performances September 13-28. Director Pat O’Neill takes on this dark comedy by treasured playwright Neil Simon portraying the pressures of big city life on a well-to-do man down on his luck.
Following the Simon play, the Spotlight season includes:
Shining City by Conor McPherson, with performances October 18 through November 2
Beauty and the Beast by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, Time Rice, and Linda Woolverton, December 6-15
The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, January 17-February 1
The Great American Trailer Park Musical by Betsy Kelso and David Nehls
The Wedding Singer by Matthew Sklar, Chad Beguelin, and Tim Herlihy
A Few Good Men by Adam Sorkin
Spotlight Theatre also presents its in-house improv group Stealth Tightrope in four performances, as well as several special events during the season such as themed musical shows and comedy nights. The stage is downstairs in Swarthmore United Methodist Church. For more details about show times, ticket prices and audition schedules, visit spotlighttheatrepa.org
