Garnet Basketball Signs New Head Coach
Candice Signor-Brown has been named head coach of the Swarthmore College women’s basketball program, replacing Renee DeVarney, who stepped down as coach after 14 seasons. Signor-Brown comes to Swarthmore after coaching at Vassar College for the past 10 seasons and amassing a 159-106 record there.
Signor-Brown has coached teams to the NCAA Tournament in four seasons, including the 2018-19 campaign in which the Brewers won 16 consecutive games and finished with a 21–7 record. The academic success of her student-athletes is also a priority for Signor-Brown. Last year, her Vassar team had the second-highest GPA in all of Division III.
“Swarthmore is a great academic institution, and I believe its academic reputation will attract some of the best talent in the country,” Signor-Brown said. “I am confident that in the years to come the Swarthmore women’s basketball program will be competitive and a Centennial Conference Championship contender.”
The women’s basketball team opens the 2019–20 season on the road at Alvernia on Nov. 11.
