Maddie Marks, a graduating Strath Haven senior and recipient of the 2019 Swarthmorean Journalism Award, was also recognized for her creative excellence in the 2019 National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
Maddie submitted work across several genres, including films and screenplays, and was awarded honors at both the regional and national level. Hers were among more than 340,000 entries of art and writing submitted this year. Her National Silver medal placed her in the top 1% of the field. She was an American Vision Gold Key nominee, and her work was recognized regionally with Gold and Silver keys and an Honorable Mention. She will matriculate at Savannah College of Art and Design.
Other eminent alumni of this contest include Truman Capote, Joyce Carol Oates, and Lena Dunham.
