Green Thumbs Up: Enter Summer Garden Contest
Is everything coming up roses in your home garden? Are your vegetables the talk of the neighborhood? Take pride in the results of your hard work and green touch and enter the Delaware County Master Gardener Garden Contest this summer. The contest is open to individual gardeners as well as community gardens in both ornamental and vegetable categories.
Ornamental gardens sub-categories include use of native plants that attract and sustain wildlife; pollinator gardens that attract bees, birds, and butterflies; and landscape design. Vegetable gardens categories are for individuals, community gardens, youth gardens, and novice vegetable gardens for first year gardeners. Judging will take place on June 14 for ornamentals and August 9 for vegetable gardens.
Apply through Penn State Extension or at 610-690-2655. First, second and third place winners in each category will receive their ribbons at the Master Gardeners’ Fall Fest in September 28 in Smedley Park.
