EAC Reports on Busy Year

As you might expect in a town so rich in environmentalists, Swarthmore’s Environmental Advisory Committee was active and effective in 2018, Chair Elizabeth Jenkins reported recently to Borough Council. Among the EAC’s projects and initiatives were:

• Successfully urging Borough Council to sign a letter supporting a Mariner East II pipeline moratorium, and a petition to create a cap and trade program in Pennsylvania to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

• Providing the public with information on a broad range of issues, through sessions on water quality, LED lighting, mulch, and composting; and creating articles and alerts for the Swarthmorean and the new EAC Facebook page.

• Organizing volunteer cleanup days at Little Crum Creek Park in spring, summer, and fall.

• Advising and providing data to the borough regarding the recycling market, the proposed street tree survey, preservation of public land, and the inter-municipal CORPOS plan.
