Swarthmore Swim Club Gets Salty
At its annual membership meeting in February, the Swarthmore Swim Club announced the pending conversion of its lap pool to a saltwater chlorination system. The change will affect the six-lane lap pool, where swim team competitions are held and lap swimmers paddle for their 1000 lap shirts. The swim club’s goal is to convert its other pools as well following infrastructure work.
Salt water systems reputedly provide effective purification while reducing skin and eye irritation as well as the chlorine smell that some swimmers object to. Conversion work is expected to be finished by opening day, which is Saturday, May 25.
