It’s Drag Queen Story Time at Trinity Church
As Christians, we believe human beings are created in God’s image. As the faith community of Trinity Church, Swarthmore, we strive to celebrate that truth. In this spirit, we are pleased to share that Balena Canto will be presenting a Drag Queen Story Time on Sunday, November 3, at 3:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall (enter through the lower red door along the circle drive). The stories will be tailored to young children, but everyone is invited, and welcome to come in costume if they’d like!
What is Drag Queen Story Time (DQST)? It is like any typical story time, with stories, songs, movement and crafts for children. The main difference is that DQST is led by a drag queen. DQST events celebrate diversity, creativity, acceptance, and love, in a spirit of fun.
Drag Queen Story Time programs have taken place worldwide and strive to foster awareness and acceptance of all facets of identity like race, religion, nationality, age, and disability. At the same time, they provide children with a positive and confident LGBTQ adult role model. At the Trinity event, featured performer Balena Canto will draw from books and songs with religious themes, highlighting God’s love for all people. Balena Canto is the creation of Matthew Maisano, Trinity’s bass section leader and soloist, and a library assistant at the Penn Wynne Library.
All are welcome to the November 3 Story Time. Trinity Church is located at 301 N. Chester Rd. in Swarthmore. More information including a link for signing up can be found at www.trinity-swarthmore.org.
